Jaguar launched the aggressive looking, sharply designed F-Type in India last year.
Based on this F-type Roadster, the company unveiled a one-off ‘Project 7’ car to enter the 2013 Goodwood festival of speed. This car will be showcased at the Auto Expo which begins this week.
The car’s name, Project 7, has been kept in honour of the seven Le Mans victories by Jaguar in the period from 1951 and 1990. Though it is similar to the outgoing Jaguar F-Type, the front fascia is new and the car boasts of many carbon-fibre aerodynamic bits. It has a lowered windshield and stands on 20-inch forged-alloy wheels which have carbon fibre inserts.
The driver’s seat has a four point harness which makes sure it anchors the driver into the composite seat. This seat, which is the only one in the car, is lowered by three cm as compared to the production F-Type. Yes, the other seat from the original two-seater car has been replaced by a helmet holder which distinctly shouts out the purpose for which the car has been made.
This car is powered by the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine from the standard F-Type which churns out 550bhp. This motor is mated to the eight-speed paddle shift gearbox.
The Jaguar D-Type has been amongst the most iconic Jaguar cars ever made. The Project 7 car has been developed to pay homage to it. The classic car’s lovers will surely get nostalgic looking at the rear fairing with an integrated rollover hoop, the single-seat cockpit setup and the blue paintwork all over. The company’s design director, Ian Cullum made sure the design of the superb looking car was in place as the engineers went ahead to complete the work within just four months.
