Motorola, a Google-owned company, which is nowadays popular for its Moto X flagship smartphone, has announced its Google Play Edition of the budget Moto G smartphone.
The Google Play Edition smartphone is available via the US Google Play Store for a budget-friendly price of $179 (Rs. 11,000 approx.) for the 8GB variant, and $199 (Rs. 12,000 approx.) for the 16GB variant. There is no information as to when the edition will hit other Play Stores.
The Moto G Google Play Edition is said to be compatible with HSPA+ bands of AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. The specifications of the device remain the same with no other additional features. However, the only plus points of buying the Google Play Edition is that the owner will receive updates much faster than its original version, and we assume the operating system is even more vanilla than the original.
Last month, Motorola's Moto G smartphone started receiving Android 4.4.2 KitKat update over-the-air (OTA). The firm at the launch of Moto G had revealed that the smartphone would be receiving a 'guaranteed' Android 4.4 KitKat update in January; however the firm rolled out the update ahead of schedule.
Punit Soni, vice president of product management, Motorola Mobility, confirmed the news in a blog post, and stated that Moto G smartphones bought via the company's online store and Amazon US will receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update by the end of December. The blog post failed to reveal the details of Android 4.4.2 update for other carriers and countries but said, "KitKat will come to other Moto G carriers and regions soon as well.
