A new leak has allegedly revealed the pricing and specifications of Samsung's much-anticipated next flagship smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy S5.</div>
<br />
Sammobile in a report citing sources has revealed that the South Korean manufacturer will unveil two variants of the alleged Galaxy S5: a metal variant which will be priced at 800 euros (approximately Rs. 67,000), and a plastic variant at 650 euros (approximately Rs. 54,500). It's worth pointing out that earlier reports had suggested that Samsung has been working on two variants of the Galaxy S5.<br />
<br />
The report also reveals some of the specifications of the yet-to-be-announced flagship smartphone, which include a QHD (1440x2560 pixel) Super AMOLED display, Exynos 6 (believed to be the successor of the Exynos 5 chipsets) or Snapdragon 805 processors; a 16-megapixel rear camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat. The alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 is also widely expected to come with iris recognition or eye-scanning technology for unlocking the phone. Unfortunately, the report sheds no light whether both the alleged Galaxy S5 variants will come with the same innards or not.<br />
<br />
Notably, a Samsung SM-G900S device was earlier spotted boasting a screen resolution of 1440x2560 pixels (2K), which was believed to be the Galaxy S5. The device was said to come with a 5.0- or 5.2-inch display, making the pixel density an incredible 560ppi. In addition, a previous report revealed that the South Korean manufacturer had placed an order of 181 million 16-megapixel camera modules for next year, which was thought to be equipped in company's upcoming high-end smartphones, including the rumoured 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5.<br />
<br />
Further, Sammobile also claims that Samsung has plans to release the alleged Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom soon after unveiling the rumoured Galaxy S5; a strategy that the South Korean giant followed with the Galaxy S4 in 2013. Additionally, the report suggests that both the alleged Galaxy S5 variants will sport a Super AMOLED display and will run on Android 4.4 KitKat.<br />
<br />
An earlier report has already indicated that Samsung is planning a global event in London scheduled around mid-March. Further, the event has been said to be for the unveiling of the company's next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5.</div>

It seems there is no end to the speculations surrounding the Samsung's highly-anticipated 2014 flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5.</div>
<br />
<br />
Now, another Samsung executive has revealed that the company will not launch the alleged Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. ZDNet Korea in a report has cited a Samsung executive confirming that there will be no flagship smartphone unveiling at the MWC. Further, the unnamed executive revealed that the alleged Galaxy S5 can be expected to be launched in March at a New York event.<br />
<br />
The new reported statement by Samsung executive denying the MWC 2014 launch contradicts an earlier claim by another company executive, who suggested that the MWC 2014 launch for the Samsung Galaxy S5 was about right.<br />
<br />
Another recent report quoted Samsung mobile executive Lee Young-hee to say that a March-April launch for the Galaxy S5 was what the company was aiming for.<br />
<br />
Other reports have detailed the launch venue, claiming that the South Korean handset maker would be holding a global event in London scheduled around mid-March.<br />
<br />
Earlier on Tuesday, Samsung Galaxy S5 was leaked with price and specifications of both metal and plastic models of the device. The report suggested that the alleged Galaxy S5's metal variant would be priced at 800 euros (approximately Rs. 67,000), and the plastic variant at 650 euros (approximately Rs. 54,500).<br />
<br />
The report also revealed some of the specifications of the yet-to-be-announced flagship smartphone, which include a QHD (1440x2560 pixel) Super AMOLED display, Exynos 6 (believed to be the successor of the Exynos 5 chipsets) or Snapdragon 805 processors; a 16-megapixel rear camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat. The alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 has been widely expected to come with iris recognition or eye-scanning technology for unlocking the phone.<br />
<br />
A recent report has also suggested that Samsung has filed a new patent that tracks gestures via head tracking gesture controls. The patent described things like a nod of head and a wink of eyes being used to carry out a specific functions. Further, the report speculated that Samsung filed the patent in July last year and that the new feature would probably be featured in the alleged Galaxy S5.</div>

<span style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="background-color: white;">Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (left) and Galaxy Gear work together to make the stylus and ‘smartwatch’ cool.</span></span><br />
<span style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Styluses and watches weren't supposed to be "cool." Until now.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Meet Samsung's luxurious Galaxy Note 3, the sleekest blend of style and do-it-all features on the always-crowded smartphone market. Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 was my favorite smartphone of 2012, the only device I wanted to use more than that old reliable iPhone. In 2013, Samsung somehow makes things even better, yielding an absolutely splendid device.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">It's all about innovation. In recent years, Samsung has been at its best when it's delivered unique devices (think the Note 2 and last year's Galaxy Camera) instead of merely following a crowd focused on battery power (yawn) and "thin and light" (sigh). So this time around, it focuses more on its S Pen stylus and crafts an optional Galaxy Gear, a completely pointless (yet totally cool) watch accessory, just for good measure.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The resulting smartphone is the best Android device this year, even if you don't shell out the exorbitant $299 extra for the Gear.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">At a whopping six inches long, the Note 3 is far larger than even oversized devices such as the HTC One and Droid Maxx, but it never feels that way, still fitting easily into my jeans' back pocket. Samsung uses the real estate well, too, delivering a beautiful 5.7-inch full-HD display that makes movies and games look fantastic.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The Note 3 never feels or looks clunky, either. Samsung smartly ditches the cheap-feeling plastic back of this year's Galaxy S4, giving you a faux-leather back on the Note 3. No, it's not real (it's plastic, too), but, combined with the silver etching around the border, it adds a slight elegance to this phone. The grip and resistance against fingerprints help, too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The guts of this phone are impressive. A 2.3-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor runs Android Jelly Bean (sorry, not KitKat), and there's a solid 3 GB of RAM. In practice, that means swift handling of everyday processes and easy Web browsing. The Snapdragon is so powerful it lets you balance two apps at once via Advanced Multi Window, a setup that's perfect on this oversized phone.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">RELATED: REVIEW: SAMSUNG GALAXY S 4</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The Snapdragon allows the Note 3 to run games easily, too. That last bit is especially worth noting when you consider the size of the Note 3. As a handheld gaming device with on-screen controls, it feels natural.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Not that Samsung intended this to be a gaming machine. The focus here is on productivity. To that end, there's a solid 13 megapixel camera. Like the S4, the Note 3 cam is loaded with software features and it functions well.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">And then there's the S Pen, and this is truly the game changer. I fell in love with the S Pen last year and I haven't killed trees with awful reporter paper waste since. And this year's pen is even more appealing.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The S Pen itself is slick and responsive once you remove it from its unnoticeable slot on the bottom right side of the Note 3. Removing it from this slot instantly brings up a menu of stylus-compatible apps for use.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">You can easily take notes with S Note or you can give Action Memo a try. This app converts your handwriting into texts or emails or contacts, and while it struggled to translate my reporter chicken scratch, in the right hands, it is a powerful, easy-to-use tool. The S Pen, meanwhile, is so easy to use that this phone is easy to recommend to students or reporters or anyone who takes plenty of notes.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">It's a shame that Samsung's user interface isn't quite that good. This used to be my favorite Android UI, but it takes slight steps backwards here. On the positive side, the WatchON app, designed to let you control your TV via the Note 3's IR blaster, is brilliant and easy to set up, and it finally smoothly integrates AV receivers. The Note 3 also incorporates a numerical row of keys on its onscreen keyboard, a smart use of its real estate when you are texting.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">But the drop-down menu has gotten overcrowded and, especially if you use WatchON, and there are so many apps that it is easy to lose track of things. It is good to give users options, but stuffing all of them onto the easy-access drop-down is overwhelming. You will want to tweak this early on. Air Gestures, which lets you command the phone without actually touching it, are needless and the eye-tracking capabilities are as useless here as they were on the S4.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">RELATED: REVIEW: SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 ACTIVE SMARTPHONE</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Still, all that stuff is customizable, so it is more annoyance than anything on a tremendous phone. At $299 on contract, the Note 3 is the class of premium smartphones, a dynamic performer, and it only gets better if you add the Galaxy Gear, too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">To be clear, you don't need a Gear because this device is completely unnecessary. But anyone who has ever wanted to feel like a secret agent or Michael Knight from "Knight Rider" will have a blast with this smartwatch, which links easily to your Note 3 via Bluetooth and stays connected. You can take calls from the Gear and you can take pictures using the Gear's camera (yes, slightly creepy), and eventually, you will be able to add other apps to the Gear.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">It's a fun little add-on for those with a little extra income, although it's not quite there yet. The Gear takes calls easily and fluidly (and there's nothing quite like a bystander watching you talk to your watch), and the camera takes surprisingly solid shots. The Bluetooth pairing with your Note 3 is easy, too.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">But at the moment $299 is just too much to pay for a device that doesn't have a full library of apps just yet. If you could, say, read your Twitter feed and text messages from your watch, that would be cool, and it would help eliminate the need to constantly pull out your oversized cellphone all the time. But as of this printing, there are no reliable apps that do that.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The Gear, therefore, is an extraneous gadget that's cool but not necessarily worth the cash — but you can't fault Samsung for giving it a try. It's innovative and different, and it'll strike a chord with at least a few people who have the extra income, which is increasingly becoming Samsung's way. Just look at the newly released Galaxy S4 Zoom phone, or the company's expanding line of tablets.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">It's nice to see a company truly innovating, trying to develop interesting tech instead of simply copying and restyling the features that have been on the market for years. It's nice to see something different and unique.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">And it's nice to use the Note 3, the finest Android smartphone to date.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>

<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Meet the Samsung Galaxy S 4, the latest most-anticipated smartphone on the market, and a pretty impressive device on its own merits. But it's evolution instead of revolution this time around, and that places the S 4 in a tricky spot.</span><span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
So this is what it's come down to for the evolution of the smartphone: A device can suddenly be defined as much by its software as its hardware, and the line between last-gen and next-gen is as blurry as a photo taken on some old VGA camera.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Meet the Samsung Galaxy S 4, the latest most-anticipated smartphone on the market, and a pretty impressive device on its own merits. But it's evolution instead of revolution this time around, and while that's beautiful and enjoyable to have, that's not something that you MUST have.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
None of this is meant to knock the S 4, because it's certainly a solid phone. But Samsung doesn't quite do enough to make the device distinct. This phone has an ever-so-slightly larger, 5-inch screen, 0.2 inches bigger than the S3's screen, but a slim bezel keeps the device just about the same size. It looks thicker, yet weighs in at just 4.6 ounces, plenty light enough to disappear into a back jeans pocket.</div>
<div class="ym-inline" style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; overflow: auto; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<div class="ym" id="ym_662889124495826023" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The S 3 and  S4 are designed so similarly that you'd be hard-pressed telling them apart. That's not necessarily a bad thing; a series of iPhones have dealt with the same issue. But the S 4's design lacks the edgy beauty of the HTC One, or the sleekness of Sony's latest Xperia phone.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It's all glossy plastic, not exactly the most attractive stuff, but what it lacks in beauty it makes up for in utility. You won't feel quite as compelled to purchase some overpriced, glove-like case for the S 4 because of the design simplicity. (I did love Samsung's S View cover, however, and if you have $59.99 to spare, that's the way to go, coating your S 4 in a cover just as intelligent as the iPad's brilliant Smart Cover.)</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Back to the S 4. The design may be simple, but under the hood is a phone that runs with the finest devices on the market. You get a 1.9 gHz Snapdragon processor, and a 2 GB of RAM. And the battery on the S 4 is a serious step up from most smartphones; I'm a pretty heavy Bluetooth user who's addicted to Google Play music and surfs the internet for fantasy baseball info far too often, and I still got a little over a day out of a full charge.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The frame also surrounds one of the finest screens on a smartphone today. Apple's Retina screens are officially battling heavy competition these days, from the HTC One, to last year's brilliant Xperia Z screen (one of the more underrated screens on the market) to the S 4's full 1,920x1,080 Super AMOLED panel.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Text is a dream on here, just as clear and full as it is on a Retina-equipped device, and colors are tremendously lush and vibrant. Colors really pop, and yet you get strong, deep blacks on the S 4. This is a definite step up from the S 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and video viewing is strong, even if I am traditionally a proponent of the larger Note 2 for movies.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Samsung also leaves you a microSD card slot, a key advantage when matched against such phones as the HTC One and that venerable iPhone.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Samsung also makes an underrated move to include an IR blaster on the S 4. Paired with a new WatchON app, this allows you to remotely control your TV with your S4. It's a feature we're seeing in more and more cell phones and tablets, and it's executed solidly here. Unfortunately, it can't quite match the depth of what we've seen from Sony the last two years, and the S4's WatchON app still doesn't play nice if you own a high-end home theater surround sound.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The camera on the S 4 is another tremendous advantage. The main camera is a 13-megapixel monster, and it takes some truly beautiful shots. Lowlight photos are solid, although they don't quite reach the level of Nokia's Lumia 920, and Samsung gives you an extensive suite of software options filled with photo magic.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">On the whole, many of the new modes lack the practicality of the shooting modes that helped define the S 3. Some of them feel a bit gimmicky, such as Samsung's Dual Shot mode, which essentially lets you take shots with the front and rear cameras on the same photo. And I've never been a huge proponent of simply removing things from photos, or moving pieces of a photo here and there. But it's nice to have options, and Samsung gives you a load of them here.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Options, of course, are a key theme of the S 4's software. The S 4 aims to be the most highly customizable Android experience on the market, backing up a solid TouchWiz UI with loads of unique options.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Don't want to go through the trouble of using your thumb to scroll up and down web pages? The S 4 can watch your eyes, and when the screen tilts in a certain direction, the page will scroll automatically. This feature winds up being impractical and unreliable, but Smart Pause, another eye-tracking feature, fares better. Look away from the screen during a video, and the S4 video automatically pauses.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Such features can be turned on and off, although honestly, I turned most of them off. Such eye-tracking features are technological accomplishments, but are they truly necessary? Samsung is automating plenty of processes that truly don't need automation, and it's all part of their attempt to bring innovation to this smartphone.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The S 4 tries to do that in other ways, too, with some S Health software that can pair with a Nike Fuelband-like wristband, and a surprisingly handy S Translator devices that has me chronically texting things in other languages just for fun. These pieces of software stand out and function well.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">But they're pieces of software, things that could theoretically be applied to other phones, not gamebreaking pieces of technology. And that's the latest sign of just how hard it is to innovate in this field these days. The S 3 pushed Samsung to the Android market's forefront, and the Galaxy Note 2 is the finest Android device I've ever tested.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">The S 4? It's not leaps and bounds ahead of either of last year's devices. Instead, it's a hop forward, solid hardware and interesting, innovative software all rolled into one, the kind of device that just might convert an Apple user to Android. But if you have an S 3, or even a Galaxy Note 2, I'm not sure an upgrade is essential just yet.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="border: 0px; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px;">Samsung's S 4 certainly gets the job done, and it's a prime target for anyone ready for an upgrade. And the S 4 also proves one thing: It's getting evermore challenging to get the job done building a captivating Android smartphone.</span></span></div>

Review: Samsung Galaxy S 4

Meet the Samsung Galaxy S 4, the latest most-anticipated smartphone on the market, and a pretty impressive device on its own merits. But...

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 gives users an options overload over Apple's iPhone 5

The Galaxy S4, the fastest-selling Android in history, gives users plenty to try out, from several camera features to an "air gesture" sensor. If you like a lot of flashy options, the phone may be a better fit for you.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjqUEA9Vl3595mjN6WFyICVVJItBTILOIpfXX-tnULZzM5pDrqrActmrRuBMToVF-7_FIbrVBbXnu79UfSupK6bmKWTCiKCK6toXyPMbC3qCghtvUUiRhFG0JWLAWWHGX-GndKZzPsDwxH/s1600/split-galaxy31-0530-web.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjqUEA9Vl3595mjN6WFyICVVJItBTILOIpfXX-tnULZzM5pDrqrActmrRuBMToVF-7_FIbrVBbXnu79UfSupK6bmKWTCiKCK6toXyPMbC3qCghtvUUiRhFG0JWLAWWHGX-GndKZzPsDwxH/s1600/split-galaxy31-0530-web.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
he Samsung Galaxy S4 (l.), the fastest-selling Android of all time since its April debut, is taking on Apple’s popular iPhone 5.<br />
If bigger is better, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 dwarfs arch-rival the iPhone 5.<br />
<br />
But when deciding which smartphone is worth the price, consider more than size. Personality counts, too.<br />
<br />
Do you prefer an overload of options, or is a simpler experience more your speed?<br />
<br />
While Tech Guru founder Daniel Moshe says the iPhone 5 continues Apple’s tradition of an easy-to-use device that “you can’t screw up,” Samsung’s flagship smartphone is all about stirring the senses.<br />
<br />
“It’s striking. It’s really impressive,” said Moshe, who runs a Minneapolis-based IT support company. “They’ve come a long way from making these ugly plastic things to a sharper-looking phone.”<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Galaxy S4, which Samsung announced last week is the fastest-selling Android phone in history, bills itself as a “life companion.” As an evolved version of its predecessor, the Galaxy S III, this upgrade has Google’s latest Android OS, a thinner design with a larger 5-inch screen and a 13-megapixel rear camera.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Compared to the iPhone 5’s 8 megapixels, pics on the Galaxy S4 appear more vibrant and with a better zoom function. There’s also a 2-megapixel front camera that allows you to simultaneoulsy snap a picture of yourself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can also take pics with a voice command or employ an “eraser” mode to wipe out blurry parts of an image.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Other unique features include a sensor software that reads your eye movement — web pages scroll automatically and videos pause when you look away from the screen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And as another add-on, the phone has an “air gesture” option. If you hover your finger over a part of the screen, it magnifies that area, or you can wave your hand above the device to answer a call or swipe through the phone’s picture gallery.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But indulging your inner Jedi takes some getting used to, and only seems practical if you’re in the middle of eating.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone features touch-free control, which allows users to maneuver apps by hovering their fingers over them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Overall, the phone takes into consideration that you’re probably a multitasker. A “multi window” option allows you to toggle between your Gmail, web browser and other apps without exiting those programs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And if you’re a fan of accessories, the phone is compatible with Samsung’s TecTiles 2, which uses the NFC (Near Field Communications) technology. The TecTiles are square stickers used to auto launch an app or change the phone’s settings whenever you hold the Galaxy S4 over it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For instance, you can stick a TecTile tag in your car and program it to open Google Maps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Or simply, open apps with your voice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not to be outsmarted by the iPhone’s voice-activated personal assistant, Siri, the Galaxy S4 has its own worthy nemesis — Google Now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The feature automatically alerts you to real-time traffic, weather updates and news stories you might want to share based on your preferences.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With so many bells ‘n whistles to sort out, the phone provides a lot of flash, which is good — as long as it suits your personality.</div>

<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
What is your definition of an “active” phone? Is it a beautiful phone that can finally get sporty? Or is it a smartphone so rugged that beauty is barely a consideration?</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This is the question you’ll have to answer if you’re considering the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone this summer. On the one hand, Samsung’s first entry into the growing market of ruggedized, waterproof devices is easily the most elegant on the market, the kind of phone you won’t mind pulling out at a Friday night party. Overall, it’s actually a more appealing phone than the regular S4, although it’s not available on AT&T and is not compatible with Samsung’s S 4 smartcovers.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
On the other hand? Toughness isn’t this phone’s strong suit. It’s more day-at-the-swimming-pool device than hiking trip companion, a device that touts its ability in the water yet doesn’t have a warranty for water damage.</div>
<div class="ym-inline" style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; overflow: auto; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<div class="ym" id="ym_662889124495826023" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Adjust your expectations accordingly. This phone isn’t really the awesome go-everywhere companion it’s billed to be; instead, it’s a sleek-looking smartphone that’s vastly more durable than the majority of the devices on the market.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The idea of the ruggedized, super-tough phone is one that more and more companies and users are beginning to embrace. From the iPhone to Sony’s Xperia Z to the HTC One to Samsung’s original S line, today’s smartphones lack true durability. They’re not built for a hike, and they’re definitely not built for a dive in the lake. That helped spawn Casio’s ultra-tough G’zOne line.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Thing is, the average ruggedized phone has an exterior that only a construction worker could love. So here comes Samsung into the act, in time to make an impact on your 2013 summer, bringing all that Samsung software goodness and a waterproof, dust-proof chassis.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If all sport smartphones looked like this, then we’d all own a sport smartphone. The S4 Active is as elegant as they come. The unit I reviewed came in an eye-catching electric blue, and it felt slightly heavier and sturdier than a regular S4. Four screws are bolted to the four back corners of the device; oddly, these are purely cosmetic, giving the phone a more rugged look but not making it any more durable.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The other notable differences between the S 4 and the S 4 Active lie just below the touchscreen. Instead of touch-sensitive buttons, the S4 Active gets three physical buttons (menu, home and back). And below those, instead of an open micro-USB charging port, you get one with a rubber gasket cover sealing the port off from water. When (or if) you plan to take the S4 Active for a swim, you’ll want to make sure this port is sealed super-tight.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Internally, this is largely the same phone as the regular S4. The camera gets a downgrade, from 13 megapixels to eight, but it still takes fantastic shots. Shooting with the S4 Active under water (a major selling point) is fantastic. It’s hard to know exactly how “real” the underwater shots are, but they definitely look good.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The other “active” points of the phone, at least to me, dealt with how it handled a real workout. Could I take the Active for a run and not worry about it even the slightest bit? Could it handle the myriad bumps and drops that come with a road hike or even a tumble from a pull-up bar in the gym?</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Here, the Active performed adequately. The device didn’t collect any dings or dents despite my dropping it a few times. (Credit the slightly rubbery corners, I guess, or maybe I just didn’t drop it from as high as I should have.) This isn’t a super-tough phone by any means, but it takes more of a pounding than a Nokia Lumia 920 or even my trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 2.</div>
<div class="ym-inline" style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; overflow: auto; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<div class="ym" id="ym_662889124495826023" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Unfortunately, the device doesn’t have a nice rubbery, grippy feel, so if you’re trying to take a picture from an odd angle from a hike, you won’t necessarily hold it comfortably with one hand to take the shot.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The Active is solid under water as long as you know what you’re getting. Forget any dreams of diving with the sharks and chronicling it on your Active. The phone has an IP67 rating, so it’s cleared for use a meter deep and only for 30 minutes.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
That’s community pool territory, not daring trip to the Great Lakes, and it’s a risk no matter what. The S4 Active warranty doesn’t cover water damage, so as with most phones, if it doesn’t work after getting wet, you’re pretty much out of luck. Use it at your own risk instead despite the massive investment.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In the end, I definitely appreciated the extra durability from the S4 Active, even if I’d hardly consider taking it on my next swim trip. The little things certainly help; I didn’t give it a second thought talking in the rain with the S4 Active, dropping it in a puddle (once intentionally, just for kicks) or even having one of those cumbersome phone-braced-against-shoulder conversations while doing dishes by the sink.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
As smartphones go, that’s impressive durability and a nice little comfort factor.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Is it an “active” smartphone? Depends on how you define “activity.”</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Samsung's smartphones keep getting bigger and the Mega is a 6.3-inch wonder. While it's troublesome to put into your pocket and text, it makes up for it with higher resolution video capabilities and a good-enough phone, but may prove too big to be your camera.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="background-color: white; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 1em 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; font-weight: normal; line-height: 12px;">The Samsung Galaxy Mega measures in at 6.3 inches and is good for viewing videos, but isn’t as successful at being a camera.</span><span style="border: 0px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; font-weight: normal; line-height: 12px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /><br /><div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Just when you thought the smartphone couldn't get any bigger, here comes the Samsung Galaxy Mega.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Meet one of the largest smartphones of them all, a 6.3-inch beast of a device. Smartphones have been growing in recent years, starting with Samsung's S line and a string of HTC devices, and culminating in the Samsung Galaxy Note line, a series of phones that hit the extra-large-phone sweet spot.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But with the Mega, Samsung experiments a little bigger one more time. The resulting smartphone isn't for everyone, thanks to some storage limitations and a hefty price tag ($499 from MetroPCS), but it will have appeal for anyone who loves watching films or streaming Netflix content.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Overall, the Mega looks like a typical Samsung smartphone. It's all plastic body and incredibly slim, with buttons where you'd expect them. Overall, it seems like an extra-large Samsung S4.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /><br /><div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But it's different. The Mega is 0.6 inches larger than the Note 3 and the extra size definitely changes how you tote it. It can still fit in the back pocket of an average pair of jeans, which is nice. However, it's too large to slide into sweatpants pockets without being conspicuous or fit in the chest pocket of a standard button-down shirt. Buyer beware: have a clear plan for how to carry this thing first.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
You'll have to get used to some other things, too. With devices such as the Note 3 and Apple's iPhones, you can type with just one hand, but the Mega's extra real estate makes it challenging to get your thumb from end to end.</div>
<div class="ym-inline" style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; overflow: auto; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<div class="ym" id="ym_662889124495826023" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
</div>
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
All of that is a trade-off for the extra-large 1,280 x 720 resolution screen. In order to keep costs somewhat down and make battery life friendly, it's an LCD display instead of the AMOLED screens you've seen elsewhere.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The difference shows, too. Held alongside a Note 3, the Mega screen is less bright and less vibrant. The red in the Netflix logo just doesn't pop quite as much on the Mega and, measured against the iPhone, it's simply not quite as impressive.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /><br /><div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Despite that, the screen has serious advantages in the right user's hands. Size makes a massive difference in the right situations and the Mega is proof. Videos are large and clear, so much so that a handful of people can crowd around a Mega and watch an episode of "Arrow" with some level of comfort in a van.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Other things work well, too. The screen size makes Web browsing a joy; in portrait mode, you can actually enjoy some desktop websites without zooming or scrolling. The Web browsing experience is excellent and Amazon's Kindle app is a joy to use, too. It feels like reading a paperback book.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It's a shame, then, that the Mega doesn't include the Note 3's excellent stylus, because some features, such as S Note, would have played well here. This could have easily been a nice productivity machine. Then again, that would have pushed the cost to stratospheric heights.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Call quality is solid, too. MetroPCS isn't as well-known as many other providers, but I had no trouble fielding calls — or dealing with dropped calls — in Manhattan. Voice clarity was good as well, although, like most Samsung devices, the speakerphone was slightly tinny.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /><br /><div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Battery life is solid, too. With normal usage, I never had to charge my Mega more than once a day.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This is already an expensive device, even after Samsung took extensive measures to hold costs down. It cleverly gets away with an average 1.7 gHz dual-core processor in a quad-core age; despite the horsepower limitations, the Mega never once exhibited signs of slowdown for me.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
There are other little limits, too. You get an 8-megapixel camera, nothing that approaches the heights of such devices as Nokia's Lumia 1020. Metro's Mega upgrades the 720p video capture limitation to 1080p, bringing the device in line with what you'd expect, too. The Mega's a little bit big to be used as a camera in general, though, and it's slightly ungainly overall, so don't expect to use this device as a camera, anyway.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It all adds up to a solid niche entry from Samsung, the company that just keeps trying new things. The Mega definitely isn't a phone for everyone, but the S4 Zoom camera phone wasn't for everyone, either.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But if you're going to spend oodles of time watching movies, and that's your smartphone focus, the Mega is for you.</div>
<span style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><br /></span></span></span></span></span></h3>

And though new players such as Micromax and Gionee are eating into the sales of established players in India, products from companies such as Samsung are seeing increasing interest among the buyers. In fact, according to Google India Zeitgeist—which tracks the year's major events and trends based on Google searches—the Samsung Galaxy S4 was the most searched for mobile device in the country in 2013.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
This year, one mobile device that just might enter the Google India Zeitgeist list is the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition). Promising what the company calls the "best viewing experience", the new Galaxy Note 10.1 boasts of extremely high WQXGA resolution with crystal clear viewing quality and big screen. In fact, the resolution offers the user utmost viewing experience and full HD contents are fully supported without compromising quality. This is one tablet in which every image and video is displayed more vividly and more sharply than many other similar devices. The Galaxy Note 10.1 also allows magazine-like experience via its 10.1-inch large screen. You can create your own menu screen by pinning your most used and loved apps, websites, videos, files, and folders to your screen. Then, there is enough screen space to do multiple tasks simultaneously. For example, you can activate two apps at the same time, and you can also draw or scribble while you are doing something else, like watching a movie.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
This tablet also gets a new exterior design. The extra space from the bezel is removed, making it smaller in size and lighter in weight without a reduction in the screen size. Then, the leather-like back cover gives the Galaxy Note 10.1 a more classic look. It has got a very solid build quality and is easy to grip. But while this tablet is fairly light at 547 gm, it remains heavy enough for single-handed usage—more often than not, you have to use both hands to operate this tablet. Sadly, there is no case or cover included in the box that can ensure ease of operation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
One can also compose and manage notes easily and quickly on this tablet. For instance, you can quickly scribble notes and then the S Note will edit the same and convert it into digital text. The S Pen that this tablet comes equipped with has a very comfortable grip and is light. As soon as you take the S Pen out of its slot, a feature called Action Memo appears on the screen. This memo connects you to seven things that you are most likely to do—call, save contact info, send SMS or email, search web and location, add tasks. The S Pen itself is a wonder—if you hold it like a pen, the rubberised tip gives a very 'pen-like' feel when writing on the screen and the handwriting recognition is just brilliant!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
This tablet has another fine feature called the Scrapbooker, with which one can easily collect and organise a variety of content, including webpages, YouTube videos, videos on device, etc, in one place called the Scrapbook.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
The front of the screen has two capacitive keys to the left and right of the home screen button in the middle, but because the tablet is wide enough at 243 mm, operating those keys with your thumbs, while holding the tablet with both hands, can be an issue at times. There is a speaker grille on each side of the tablet and the sound is loud yet clear. The Galaxy Note 10.1 has a front and a rear camera, both of which are at par with cameras on other tablets in this segment.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
The Galaxy Note 10.1 is loaded with features—multi-window, smart stay, air view, etc—some of which Samsung users might already be aware of, but people coming from iOS or even vanilla Android may have to climb the learning curve. And once you get a hang of things, this tablet can be</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 23px;">
extremely productive. Again, too many features also mean the device, at times, does tend to lag but, fortunately, this lag is not frustrating. Mention must be made of the 8,220 mAh battery which lasts very long even with heavy usage. Priced at R49,990, the Galaxy Note 10.1 can prove to be a very productive tablet for professionals. It is, indeed, among the few tablets we hate to dislike.</div>

New Samsung Galaxy S5 Concept Features Include 5.25-Inch Curved Screen Display and Aluminum Casing

A new Samsung Galaxy S5 concept image comes with a 5.25-inch screen display and Note 3's faux leather casing as inspired by the controversial patent leak.<br />

Samsung leaked some patents last week that inspired some creative thinkers to design renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4. Designer Ivo Maric imagined the Samsung Galaxy S5 to have the same size as Galaxy S4 but the screen size will be increased by further narrowing the bezels.<br />
<br />
Mixed emotions may be felt as the render pictures the handset to have an aluminum casing but faux leather covers Samsung's removable battery just like Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Lastly, Ivo Maric depicts a smartphone without a Home button.<br />
<br />
The Samsung Galaxy S5 concept image is based on U.S. Patent filings by Samsung and is not the real deal until Samsung or someone else leaks some legitimate or official photos.<br />
<br />
According to latest rumours, Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will be held next month on or before the Mobile World Congress. Samsung's executive Dong-hoon Chang confirmed that the company will release a new flagship phone next month. However, it is most likely that Samsung will hold a separate launch for its new handset like what it did to Galaxy S3 and S4 than present it in the tech event.<br />
<br />
Samsung is elusive in confirming the details of the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S5. However, in many occasions, the company hinted some of its possible features like qHD screen displays with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution; 64-bit Exynos octa core processor and iris scanner.<br />
<br />
Consumers can also expect 16 MP ISOCELL back camera and 4 MP front facing camera, 3 GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU and longer battery life. Samsung Galaxy S5 will either pack the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat OS or the rumoured Tizen OS. </div>

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Review

<div class="description" id="HeadContent_FullstoryCtrl_fulldetails" style="background-color: white; color: #4e4e4e; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14.44444465637207px; line-height: 20px; outline: none;">
Remember when people used personal computers - desktops and laptops - to check email, view video and keep tabs on Facebook? Back in that far-away era, I'd have several windows open for Web browsers, a word processor, a photo editor and sometimes a reader for PDF documents.<div style="outline: none;">
I miss that capability on mobile devices, particularly on full-size tablets with a decent amount of display space. With iPads and Android tablets, I'm typically limited to one window displayed at a time; other apps run in the background, out of sight. With Windows 8 tablets, I can run two windows side by side, but I'm constrained in what I can do with them. It gets better with the Windows 8.1 update due out next week, but it's still not the free-for-all I had with PCs.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
So I marveled at a pair of multitasking features that come with Samsung's new tablet, formally called Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 Edition. Sporting a 10.1-inch display, measured diagonally, the Note tablet goes on sale in the U.S. on Thursday at a starting price of $550.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
The first of the multitasking features, called Multi-Window, has been available in Samsung devices for about a year, but it works with many more apps now. You can run two apps side by side, such as Facebook on one side and YouTube video on the other.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Like Windows 8 tablets, you're limited to just two apps. You can change how much of the screen each one takes, a capability coming with Windows 8.1, but you can't choose to have a window take up just the top left corner, the way you can on PCs. In addition, Multi-Window isn't a universal feature. Apps for Netflix and Hulu won't work, for instance. You currently have about 18 apps to choose from, including Facebook and a variety of Google and Samsung apps.</div>
<span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline; outline: none;"><img alt="Galaxy-Note-10_1_635_multi_window.jpg" class="mt-image-center" height="423" src="http://cdn.ndtv.com/tech/images/gadgets/Galaxy-Note-10_1_635_multi_window.jpg" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: none; display: block; margin: 0px auto 20px; outline: none; padding: 0px; text-align: center;" width="635" /></span><div style="outline: none;">
With that limitation, it's nice that Samsung Electronics Co. is supplementing Multi-Window with a feature called Pen Window.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
With it, simply draw a box on the screen with the included stylus, and choose one of seven apps to open in a new window. Do it again and again until you open all seven apps, if you wish. That's nine in all, counting the two with Multi-Window. Each Pen Window app appears in a window that floats over your main app (or two apps if you use Multi-Window). You can move that window around on your screen and resize it, just as you can on PCs. Need a break from it? Just minimize it into a small dot and move it out of the way.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Like Multi-Window, you're restricted in what apps you can use with Pen Window, though I expect more to get added over time. For now, Pen Window on the tablet works with YouTube, the calculator, the alarm clock, your contacts list, the Web browser and two chat apps - Samsung's ChatOn and Google's Hangouts. I like the fact that you can open all of them and keep them out of the way in a minimized state. That way, it's just one click when you need the calculator and one click when you're done.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
The iPad doesn't do that. Amazon's Kindle Fire doesn't do that. Other Android tablets don't do that. Windows 8.1 won't do that - at least not in the tablet-style viewing mode that Microsoft prefers you stick with. You'll have to go to the classic, desktop mode to resize windows, which defeats the purpose of having Windows 8 or 8.1. Windows 8.1 will go further than Multi-Window in letting you run up to four apps side by side, but that works only on larger screens, not portable tablets.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Beyond multitasking, the new Note tablet offers a My Magazine mode giving you personalized highlights, such as news topics of interest, content from your social media feeds and suggestions on things to do and see, based on your current location. It's a good concept, though Facebook isn't available through it yet.</div>
<span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline; outline: none;"><img alt="galaxy_note_10_1_635_with_stylus.jpg" class="mt-image-center" height="423" src="http://cdn.ndtv.com/tech/images/gadgets/galaxy_note_10_1_635_with_stylus.jpg" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: none; display: block; margin: 0px auto 20px; outline: none; padding: 0px; text-align: center;" width="635" /></span><div style="outline: none;">
The new tablet also gives you quick access to the tools you can accomplish with its stylus. Pen Window is one. Another feature lets you add notes to a screenshot of what you see. Another lets you clip a section of a Web page and store it with a Web link.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Unfortunately, not everything worked. Text recognition was poor. I'm supposed to be able to jot down an email address or a phone number with the stylus and have that handwriting converted into a contacts entry. But the device constantly confuses the letters "o" and "l" with the numerals "0" and "1."</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Pen Window also is more difficult than necessary to set up. You need to take out the stylus for an Air Command tool to appear on the screen. You choose Pen Window, then draw a box on your screen with your stylus. Then you choose the app you want to open. Do all of that again to get additional apps, after figuring out how to get Air Command again with your stylus already out. It would have been simpler to have a button on the home screen that you can tap with your finger or stylus.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
In addition, Samsung could have done more with the apps in minimized state. Google's chat app is reduced to a circular icon. It could have flashed or changed colors to notify me of a new chat message, rather than make me open and close it regularly to check.</div>
<span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline; outline: none;"><img alt="galaxy_note_10_1_635_back.jpg" class="mt-image-center" height="423" src="http://cdn.ndtv.com/tech/images/gadgets/galaxy_note_10_1_635_back.jpg" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: none; display: block; margin: 0px auto 20px; outline: none; padding: 0px; text-align: center;" width="635" /></span><div style="outline: none;">
The tablet's back is still made of plastic, but it feels like leather - an improvement over previous Samsung devices. The tablet does feel heavy, at 1.2 pounds, but that's still lighter than the 1.4 pounds for the full-size iPad. If you want light, wait until early November for the large-size version of Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX. It weighs just 0.83 pound.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
Samsung's tablet is also pricey - the $550 starting price tops the iPad's $499 and the Fire's $379. Of course, neither the iPad nor the Fire includes a stylus.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
One more complaint: Although the tablet uses the latest version of Android, 4.3, it doesn't offer that system's feature of letting multiple people share a device with separate profiles.</div>
<div style="outline: none;">
With the Note, it's clear some of the functionality we've long associated with PCs is coming to devices we're just getting to know. There's more to be done, including support for multiple users, but I'm glad Samsung is leading us in that direction.</div>
